Somewhere in Hollywood, Simon Cowell is sobbing into black, custom made tissues…
All the hype, the high profile judge additions, and trash talk wasn’t enough to pull the Season 2 premiere of “The X Factor” past its NBC nemesis. When it came to total viewers, “The Voice” cruised by the FOX signing show, leaving the competition and Cowell’s tears in the dust.
According to official data gathered by the Nielsen Company, “The Voice” earned over one million more viewers than “X Factor.”
The NBC show landed 10.66 million viewers, where FOX’s take on the genre came in at just under 8.5 million.
The finale of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” earned even more viewers, breaching the 11 million viewer mark.
In adults 18-49, NBC also prevailed on top in the common 8 p.m. hour that the dueling shows shared, earning a 3.3 over the 2.7 scored by “X Factor.”
Overall, the FOX show earned a 3.3 rating, tying "The Voice," which is a significant loss when compared to last year’s series premiere that earned the network a 4.4 18-49 rating.
It’s not all bad news for “X Factor” and FOX, though…
Simon’s show did help win the network the number one spot for the evening overall, with NBC coming in second. Matching the numbers of “X Factor,” FOX rounded the evening off with a successful 3.3/10 and an average of 8.42 million viewers.
NBC finished at 2.7/8 and 8.927 million viewers…
Simon, Britney, L.A. and Demi… Looks like for this top dog spot you’re going to have to try Xtra hard.
