Shutter Island Spooks Away Box Office Competition

Martin Scorcese’s Shutter Island has continued its reign at the box office for the second week running. The film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, earned an estimated $22.2 million in theaters over the weekend, putting its total box office number at $75 million.

Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan secured the second spot with Cop Out, which made $18.5 million. The Crazies debuted in third place at $16.5 million.

In related news, Avatar doesn’t seem to be slowing down one bit. Its domestic gross is now at $706 million. We’ll likely see some 3D competition from Alice in Wonderland next Friday, however.
