”The Kite Runner” has finally premiered in Los Angeles after several delays of the release date. The movies stars Khalid Abdalla, Atossa Leoni and Shaun Toub who came out to promote their project based on the novel written by Khaled Hosseini.
The film is directed by Marc Forster and is about Amir, a well-to-do boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, who is haunted by the guilt of betraying his childhood friend Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara servant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion, the mass exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the Taliban regime. Though most of the novel is set in Afghanistan, some were mostly filmed in Kashgar, China due to the dangers of filming in Afghanistan. It has been reported though that the child actors and their families have expressed worries about their situation now that the film is completed.
One child actor was worried that his friends would believe his rape scene was real in the movie and would stop talking to him. Another child actor revealed that he was worried people would kidnap him due to the money he earned in the flick.
In October 2007, the family of Ahmad Khan (who plays Hassan as a child) announced the film's distributors, Paramount Vantage, are evacuating them from Afghanistan due to safety issues.
