One-time Playmate and "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Shanna Moakler tweeted late Monday afternoon, “A eagle attacked my 2 chi's today, my girl pup is at the vet, my boy is missing, between my cat and my pups, I'm about to fckn kill things.”
She then tweeted “I am so incredibly sad.”
In an exclusive statement to Hollyscoop, Shanna clarifies just what happened during her grizzly encounter with a predatory bird outside her home.
"I live in a neighborhood where coyotes and hawks are prevalent," says Shanna. "We took the dogs outside to go to the bathroom and they were attacked by a hawk. My one puppy may have lost an eye, we won't know for a couple weeks and the bird flew off with my other puppy. It was like out of a movie."
Shanna and her children live in Calabasas, the celeb-infested neighborhood north of Los Angeles best known as the hometown of the Kardashians and for its open spaces.
Sadly, this isn't the first time Shanna has lost a pet to local predators despite her best efforts to protect them. "I'm devastated as I have lost two animals in the matter of a month from coyotes and hawks. I had even installed coyote fences."
In the midst of her grief, Shanna cautions other small pet owners to be aware of their surroundings: "I just hope people with small dogs will start taking precautions with their pets outside and try to protect them from predators. I hope people just remember not to take things for granted as you never know when they can be gone, both people and fur babies."
Shanna isn't the only celebrity who has been affected by predatory wildlife. In 2009, Jessica Simpson lost her beloved Malti-poo Daisy to a coyote that snatched her up right in front of the singer.
