Divergent opened on March 21, 2014 to NOT GREAT reviews, but GREAT box office numbers.

However, Divergent can’t seem to escape those, “But this is basically just Hunger Games” comments.

Nearly every review of the film starts with something like, “Divergent is promising, but it’s no Hunger Games,” or “Shailene Woodley, star of the new Hunger Games...”

Usually the stars of big blockbusters do huge PR tours LEADING UP TO the premiere of the film. But, once the film opens, the press rounds stop.

But a weird thing is happening with Divergent. The film's stars are continuing to do press for the release (nearly three weeks after it hit theaters) and are determined to make sure they convince audiences that Divergent is NOTHING LIKE HUNGER GAMES.

In a new interview with Digital Spy, Shailene and co-lead Theo James were quick to end the Divergent vs. Hunger Games debate once and for all.

“The storylines are inherently very different,” said Shailene. “At the end of the day, it’s like comparing Star Wars to Star Trek.”

“Inevitably there are going to be comparisons because they’re both set in the future and have a female protagonist, but that’s kind of it,” Theo added.

“I hope that the film crosses the boundary of not just being a YA movie, but also a stand-alone adult film because of some of the themes, and also because we’re a lot older,” he said.

What do you think? Is Divergent trying way too hard to distance itself from Hunger Games when they are actually VERY SIMILAR films?
