Selena Gomez is growing up, and the 19 year-old has now taken on a role in the upcoming movie, Spring Breakers. James Franco and Vanessa Hudgens will also star in the flick.
“It’s a different character than I have ever played before. It’s a different kind of vibe, I think, than people are used to seeing in me,” Gomez says. “What you’re going to see is more raw, I think. It’s going to be raw and more about acting.”
Which is good, because acting is usually what movies are supposed to be about.
The film is led by Harmony Korine, who usually directs dark and depressing movies. So we can probably expect something along those lines, which is definitely a far cry from the usual roles we see Selena in. Then again, it was kind of sad in Monte Carlo when the tour bus left them behind and they got stuck at that hotel.
Anyway, here’s an example of Korine’s work. His 1995 film, Kids, is about a group of sexuality active New York City teenagers. One of them is an HIV-positive skateboarder who makes it his goal to have sex with as many virgins as possible.
So yeah, nothing like Princess Protection Program.
Anyway, about Spring Breakers. Selena will play one of three broke college kids who join forces to rob a restaurant so they can pay for a spring break trip. Sounds pretty fun, except that they run into a drug and weapons dealer, and from there, chaos ensues.
So yeah, it looks like Gomez is trying to shed that good girl Disney image, one raw role at a time.
But one adorable role she’s not shedding? Being devoted girlfriend of Justin Bieber. Awwww.
The two have been spending a lot of time together despite their busy schedules. In a recent radio interview, where Justin Bieber was given a hard time for his loyalty to one woman, Justin said: “Why would I let something so amazing slip away?” He was, of course, talking about Selena.
And when it comes to that epic Staples Center date, Bieber said he just “wanted to have dinner.” But he then admitted:
“I kind of outdid it there.”
