Scarlett Johansson was born on November 22, 1984, in New York City and began her acting career alongside Ethan Hawke in an off-Broadway production of Sophistry at the age of 8.
While attending the prestigious Professional Children’s School in Manhattan, Scarlett made her on-screen debut next to Elijah Wood in North (1994) followed by her first lead role in Manny & Lo (1996).
Scarlett first gained the attention of Hollywood with a critically acclaimed performance in Robert Redford’s The Horse Whisperer (1998). She officially reached celebrity status when she co-starred alongside Bill Murray in the award-winning drama Lost in Translation (2003), a performance that resulted in a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.
After giving another memorable performance in Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003), Scarlett earned a Golden Globe nomination for her work in Woody Allen’s crime drama Match Point (2005) whom she was later reunited with in Scoop (2006).
Also around this time, she became a box-office leading woman alongside Ewan McGregor in The Island (2005) followed by giving a well-received performance in The Prestige (2006).
