In the past, Cameron has talked about the intention of working on a sequel to the Oscar nominated film in the near future.
He said previously, "We always planned on continuing the world and continuing the characters. In fact, that was part of the original pitch to 20th Century Fox."
Sam Worthington Up for the Challenge of Avatar 2
Now he tells the LA Times, "Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment—a different setting within Pandora. And I'm going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won't be a rain forest. I'm not saying we won't see what we've already seen; we'll see more of that as well."
Cameron says it’s no easy task creating Pandora, but now that they have the materials from the first film, it’ll take faster to complete this time around.
"We're going to spend a lot of money building this world and all these digital characters and digital plants and trees and mountains and so on, and then once we've got it, we've got it. It's not like it's a practical set that when you build it, you have to tear it down and you're left with a big pile of lumber out behind the studio. We have all that stuff so we can go again,” he explained.
Hollyscoop spoke EXCLUSIVELY with Sam Worthington recently, and he told us he’s up for as many sequels Cameron decides on. He told us, “When the boss decides that he is up for the challenge, when he writes it and tells me to jump, I’ll jump.”
He also joked about some character changes he hopes will happen to Jake, who is now part of the Nav’i race. “I want him to be fat,” Sam confessed.
We don’t think that’s possible! Cameron says the storyline in the second film will definitely have us wanting more. "We expand out across that system and incorporate more into the story—not necessarily in the second film, but more toward a third film," he explains.
For now, you can buy Avatar out on DVD tomorrow!

Hollyscoop talked EXCLUSIVELY with the film’s star Sam Worthington, and he gave us the scoop on what he knows about a possible Avatar 2.
We asked Worthington when we could expect to see a sequel to the highest-grossing film of all time, and he told us, “When the boss decides that he is up for the challenge. When he writes it and tells me to jump, I’ll jump.”
Avatar to Be Re-Released This Fall
We also asked Sam what kinds of changes he’d like to see his character go through for the sequel. “I want him to be fat,” he joked. He added that he’d like to see his enemies try and kill his Avatar with an arrow.
We’d prefer it if he stayed alive! We hope James Cameron is open to a sequel because we can’t wait to see more!

Sources say Sam is up against the sexy Ryan Reynolds for the leading role in the sci-fi flick. “If he gets the role it would be quite a big deal as Flash is an all-American hero,” dished one Hollywood insider. “Right now it’s between Sam, Ryan Reynolds and one or two others for the lead role should the project actually get off the ground.”
The role calls for Flash as a handsome polo player and Yale graduate, who travels to the planet Mongo, where it’s discovered that the meteors are weapons devised by Ming the Merciless, evil ruler of Mongo.
What’s interesting is that the role is an American hero. Sam Worthington is Australian, but we’re sure he’d be happy to perfect his best American accent for a role like this!
And we know Sam has no problem wearing little clothing! Did you see him in Avatar? “I had nothing on,” he said. “I had a loincloth on and they painted me blue, basically”.
That’s dedication right there!
