There’s been a lot of talk and rumors surrounding whether or not Ryan Seacrest is replacing Matt Lauer on NBC’s The Today Show. Well, NBC Universal, the parent company to both the E! network and NBC, has just announced a two-year multi-platform agreement with Ryan Seacrest.
CEO of NBC Universal Steve Burke released the statement, “Ryan is an extraordinary talent who has been an important part of the Comcast family for a long time. We look forward to his continued role on E! and to having him appear on many new places across NBCUniversal, including the TODAY show and at the Olympics. This is a great example of how NBCUniversal is able to provide the perfect home for some of the best people in the business.”
In non-Hollywood talk, that means we can keep spreading the rumor that Ryan Seacrest is taking over Matt Lauer’s job!
The statement explicitly says that Ryan will appear on the TODAY show and since there’s really only room for one well-mannered and manicured adult male on the morning show that has to mean that if Seacrest is in, Lauer is out. That’s just my (non) expert opinion.
So let me get this straight, Seacrest will be appearing on American Idol, producing E! News and “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” and will now be contributing to the TODAY show and the Olympics? Over-achiever.
“Joining the Comcast family six years ago was a game changing experience for me,” says Seacrest in a statement, “My time at E! has enriched my career – both in-front-of and behind-the-camera, for which I am forever grateful.”
He adds that he looks forward to “strategically extending my relationship to encompass NBC programming. I’m especially looking forward to working with all the stellar on-air talents and producing executives involved in NBC’s news, entertainment and sports divisions.”
He’s going to be doing sports reporting too!?
