This is. The Today show…Seacrest out.
"What kind of conversations have you had with NBC about joining the ‘Today’ show?" Lauer asked. Ryan joked: "They didn't tell you?!"
Matt laughed, then grabbed him by the collar and said, “You think this is some sort of joke, pretty boy?!”
The last part didn’t happen, but only because it was live and they couldn’t edit it out in post.
Seacrest smiled and responded seriously to the question: "I see you doing this job for as long as you want to. So maybe the question is how long do you plan to do the 'Today' show?"
Lauer didn’t answer the question, but he did tell us that he and Ryan were on friendly terms and there was “no tension” between them. He added that Ryan would be great in his ‘Today’ show role.
“Matter of fact,” Seacrest added, “when the story came out, we had dinner together.”
"Yes, I bought dinner which I thought was completely inappropriate," Lauer joked.
Matt is reportedly close to signing a $25 million-a-year contract to keep his role at ‘Today,’ Matt’s current contract expires in December.
Ryan actually will be coming to NBC, but not to overthrow Matt. He announced that he’ll be taking part in NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics. This was, apparently, the “big announcement” NBC has been promising all week.
