Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon divorced years ago, but it seems no one can get over it! And Ryan has had just about enough of being scrutinized in the public eye over his personal relationships—with Reese, and more recently for his split from Abbie Cornish.
Phillippe is speaking out against the press for discussing both his divorce and more recent split from Cornish. In an interview with Howard Stern today, Ryan told him, "I have a new rule: not to date anyone who has a publicist. Who announces a breakup? I don't understand that! There's no need for that."
He was referring to when Cornish’s rep told the tabloids that the split was in fact true. But Ryan insists he’s been dealing with scrutiny since he and Reese divorced in 2006. "I've been dumped on in the press for relationship stuff since Reese and I divorced," he said.
"I'm tired of getting s*** on," Phillippe, 35, told Stern. "I don't feel like I deserve it. Things happen! How many people have you broken up with over your life?"
Plus, Ryan said there’s no bad blood between him and his ex-wife. He says "it's gotten to a place where we're great friends and great co-parents. After I had my breakup, she called, and after she did, I called."
As for Reese’s new agent boyfriend Jim Toth, Phillippe said, "I trust her to make the right decisions around our children. I hope she feels the same way."
He also says his and Reese’s new relationships haven’t affected the kids too much. He told Stern, "If the kids care about mom dad, and if that's consistent and they feel protected that way, they don't they don't really care so much about who the parent is dating. They just don't."
Even though Ryan is technically single and looking, he insists he’s "serial monogamist. Either a girl is worth spending all of my time with or none of my time."
We’re sure it won’t be long before he’s back off the market!
