Ryan Gosling Speaks Up For Cows' Feelings

Your boyfriend, Ryan Gosling, is a real sweetheart.

In addition to doing nice things like bringing his mom to award shows and taking his shirt off in Crazy, Stupid, Love, the man-swan has just teamed up with animal rights organization, PETA to stop the painful process of cow dehorning.

In a letter to Jerry Kozak, the president and CEO of the National Milk Producers Federation, Gosling says he "was shocked to learn from my friends at PETA about a practice in the dairy industry called ‘dehorning.’”

Rather than the current tactics that involve abrasive chemicals, handsaws, burning and guillotines, the actor urges the milk honcho endorse a gentler alternative. He writes:

"As you know, there is a simple and humane alternative: breeding for polled cows. The American Veterinary Medical Association, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and third-party animal welfare auditing groups recognize the benefits of polled genetics for the dairy industry, so there is absolutely no reason—and no excuse—for the cruel, unnecessary practice of dehorning to continue. Please do the right thing and take action today."

In other words: “Hey girl… be nice to the cows.”

Gosling’s involvement will surely draw some much-needed attention to this painful practice in the dairy industry, which PETA describes as “completely unnecessary.”

Perhaps more immediately evident, though, is the fact that we just got one more reason to love Ryan Gosling.
