Russell Brand Will Host 2012 MTV Movie Awards
First British Parliament, now the MTV Movie Awards? Apparently the breakup with Katy Perry isn’t slowing him down.

Comedian Russell Brand is the confirmed face of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Hide the kids, the senior citizens, and the frail-hearted individuals. With Brand on board, this year’s ceremony promises to be crude, rude, and probably a little weird.

“MTV Movie Awards incorporates two of my favorite things. Movies and Awards. If somehow group sex could be involved it would be the greatest night of my life," Brand said in a statement.

Don’t expect him to be modest about the appearance either. The 'Get Him to the Greek' actor promises that ceremony will be more impressive than even 'The Avengers'.

Among the nominees for this year's fan-selected best picture are Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part One, and The Hunger Games.

Brand co-stars alongside Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Catherine Zeta-Jones this summer’s highly anticipated Broadway film adaptation of Rock of Ages. The star-studded musical arrives in theaters June 15.

The choice to include Brand continues a pattern of incorporating comedy in the show. Brand will join a long list of comedian hosts for the event that includes names like Jimmy Fallon, Aziz Ansari, Eddie Murphy, Will Smith, and 2011’s host Jason Sudeikis from SNL.

Executive producer of the award show, Jesse Ignjatovic, feels that Brand is a “perfect choice” for the host role. His experience in standup comedy will allow him to play off the unscripted, in the moment incidents.

“He has amazing comedic chops. He's brilliant,” said Ignjatovic. “"Whatever we end up creating around him within the show, he brings that danger thing as well."

The 2012 MTV Movie Awards at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles airs on Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
