We called it! Russell Brand was rumored to get up to six months in jail as a result of his criminal charges related to his iPhone smashing habits, but we knew he’d probably just get a slap on the wrist and a couple hours of community service, and that he did. 20 whole hours.

Russell was scheduled to appear in court in New Orleans this morning, but his attorney Robert Glass entered a not guilty plea on his behalf for allegedly grabbing a paparazzo’s iPhone back in March and chucking it through the window. All that zen yoga practice just out the window, well, through the window, I suppose.

New Orleans Municipal Court Deputy Clerk Souquet tells Hollyscoop, "Russell Brand plead not guilty. He was sentenced to 20 hours of community service. He was not fined. He is scheduled for an August 31st status hearing...His lawyer can appear for him, he does not have to appear."

Russell was not fined, but did have to pay an administrative $500 court fee.

If Russell can complete the community service by August 31, the entire case will be dropped.

It’s only 20 hours. That’s how many hours the average Hollywood assistant works in one day. If he can’t figure out how to complete those hours he might as well just take up a residence at the Chateau Marmont and start doing Lifetime movies. Yes, I just described Lindsay Lohan’s life!
