Michelle Rounds, Rosie O’Donnell’s fiancé, is recovering from surgery and the couple plan to postpone their wedding.
O’Donnell tweeted a link to a poem on her website that she wrote for her wife-to-be, chronicling their recent journey through “Mish’s” illness.

Around Mother’s Day, Rounds was suddenly stricken with desmoid tumors, that O’Donnell describes in her missive as: odd and curious beasts
strong and sneaky, a non cancer that acts cancerous, only 900 cases a year in the US only, an orphan disease – beyond rare, only 3 people per million get this.
According to WebMD, the tumors mimic a cancer, but lack the ability to move to other parts of the body. Regardless, they can be very difficult to remove because they “intertwine extensively with the surrounding tissues.”
They are treated through surgery, but have about 70% chance of recurring.
The usually upbeat O'Donnell's prose is a sad and endearing ode to her feelings for Michelle in which she addresses her own helplessness in watching someone she loves endure excruciating pain, and how she’s turned to food for comfort in these trying times.
we wander thru the maze of medical mystery
confused – scared
mish gets even smaller
i get even bigger – sugar my solace
Following Round’s surgery in June, O’Donnell says she is “getting stronger every day.” But before giving that update she reminds us all that “life changes in an instant.”
Michelle’s recovery is taking top priority and has delayed the couples wedding, now planned for next summer.
In lieu of any kind of gifts, they are requesting donations be made to the DTRF Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation.
She is also welcoming an outpouring of, “good thoughts,” “wishes” and “prayers.”
We are happy to comply – our best to Rosie and Michelle, we hope you both feel better soon.
