Some celebs bulk up for a role, lose some weight, maybe brush up on a foreign accent..but other celebs take their movie roles VERY seriously. So seriously in fact that they do some weird sh-t, like bleaching their eyebrows, living in a homeless shelter, or refusing to eat food for months.

Check out the weird prep work that some celebs did to win a role.

Rooney Mara: In order to get the role of Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” Rooney Mara had to get her eyebrows bleached, her hair chopped off, and her lip, brow, nose, and nipple pierce all on the same day. She called the multiple piercing visit, “very intense.”
Rooney Mara was rocking her trademark hair and a stunning white Givenchy gown as she arrived to the 84th Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

For the 18th annual “Hollywood Issue” of Vanity Fair, 11 talented up-and-coming female actresses were selected to cover the mag. Shot by the infamous Mario Testino, the following 11 ladies were selected for the coveted VF photoshoot: Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Lily Collins and Brit Marling.

The girls are all dolled up in 1920’s old Hollywood Glamour. Rooney Mara got a gothic bob look. Mia Wasikowska looks like Marilyn Monroe. Lily Collins could pass for Marion Cotillard and Jessica Chastain is a dead-ringer for Jessica Rabbit.
Nobody loves talking about Sofia Vergara’s body more than Sofia Vergara. But that’s not to say tons of men aren’t talking about it, too. And now we have indisputable proof.

AskMen conducted their 2012 survey of the ’99 Most Desirable Women of 2012,’ and Sofia came in at number one, beating out her number three spot from last year.

Last year’s number one was Blake Lively, who came in this year as number 32. And yes, I’m pretty sure this list doubles as Leonardo DiCaprio's 'to-do' list. K I can cross that one off, now only 75 more to go...

Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kate Upton came in second and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’s Rooney Mara came in third. Talk about polar opposites. Just goes to show you ladies, no matter what you’re look is, there are men out there who love it.
This year's Oscar nominations are full of newcomers, with Jonah Hill, Kristin Wiig, and Melissa McCarthy being tossed into the ring.

It's great to see new talent being recognized, but each year's Oscar nominations are always filled with surprises and snubs, and the 84th Annual Academy Awards were no different.

Jonah Hill was the first surprise of the morning, as he nabbed a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Moneyball. I mean, this is the guy who drew dongs in Superbad, and that wasn't that long ago. Good for him.

Rooney Mara was another surprise, nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Rooney Mara, the actress who plays the edgy, aloof lead in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, says she was surprised to find out she was nominated for a Golden Globe.

“We’d had three premieres in three countries, in three nights, so I was kind of half asleep,” Rooney told Ann Curry of learning about her Golden Globes nomination last week. “I kind of forgot that that was happening, so I was very surprised.”

David Fincher directed the movie, the same guy behind Fight Club and The Social Network, so as an actress, Mara knew this wasn’t going to be an easy gig.

Curry explained: “When [Fincher] laid out the requirements for this role, that you would need to smoke, that you would need to learn how to ride a motorcycle, you would need to be naked a lot…why did you say yes?”

Rooney Mara, a relatively unknown actress, just landed the role of the lifetime as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Sony announced today that Rooney, who worked with director David Fincher on "The Social Network," will play the lead in all three of his adaptations of Stieg Larsson's "The Millennium Trilogy."

Rooney will be starring opposite the previously announced Daniel Craig and Robin Wright. Lucky girl!

Kristen Stewart, Emma Watson and Carey Mulligan had all been rumored to be considered for the role but in the end David decided to go with someone who isn't a household name...yet.

The movie is set to begin filming next month in Sweden and due to hit theaters on December 21, 2011. Can't wait for this!
