Robin is trying to put the past behind her and move on with her life and Sean has no problem with that because, "She is a ghost to me now," Sean said according to People magazine.
Sean Penn Pleads No Contest to Kicking Ass
"We spent all those years together … Now she's just gone," Sean told Vanity Fair in the July issue of the magazine.
Nowadays these two only reunite for the sake of their kids. Their son Hopper was recently hospitalized with a life-threatening head injury in a skateboarding accident and they both went to the hospital to be by his side.
It's sad that after 20 years of marriage, they really don't want much to do with each other. But than again Robin probably wasn't thrilled about Sean running around town with women half her age.

According to E!, Penn was banned from entering the Governor’s Ball last night after getting into an argument with The Hurt Locker producer Greg Shapiro backstage during the Oscars. And the reason for the beef between the guys may have something to do with the fact that Shapiro is now dating Robin Wright Penn.
Mark Malkin reports, "Academy officials...said he was banned from the Ball.”
Penn’s rep insists a confrontation never occurred. An Academy rep then said this morning, "Sean Penn chose not to attend the Governors Ball." But we still don’t know if that was by choice or not!
We’d imagine it would be a little awkward for Sean and Greg to meet backstage. And Penn did act a little strange during his presentation of Best Actress last night.
He said during his speech, "I never became an official member of the Academy, but the Academy and I do have in common that we neglected to acknowledge the same actress in our own ways two years running. So I'm going to start fresh with the Academy and acknowledge these wonderful actresses."
He was talking of course about his ex-wife, who wasn’t nominated for her role in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. Regardless, we can’t see an A-lister getting denied at the door at an Oscar party. Most likely Penn just opted out of going so he wouldn’t have to see Shapiro again!

Robin filed for divorce from Sean Penn in August, citing irreconcilable differences, and says now she will have more time to focus on her career and her children.
In an interview with Redbook, Robin said, "I turned down so many films because I wanted to be a mom that they stopped offering. I gave up a lot for my kids, but I didn't give up...I'm very content with the way it all turned out."
"I have no regrets for my life that has been lived. New beginnings, definitely. For me, my career too. My kids are older now."
One thing Robin isn’t happy about is the media coverage of her divorce. She says, "It never feels good. Yes, it's divorce; it's a given that it will be public. But...it's so disrespectful. It's like, 'You're an actress, you owe us this?' 'F--- you' is what I say."

In the clip obtained by TMZ, Sean shares a cigarette with a tall, slender woman dressed in black at a bar on Wednesday night.
You can see her smiling nervously as the whispers in her ear with his hand on her back before taking her cigarette out of her mouth and taking a drag.
Later that same night, Sean is seen sitting next to another woman, whispering in her ear and nuzzling her neck. Smooth Sean!
Robin filed for divorce on August 12th in Marin County, California citing "irreconcilable differences," but its not the first time the couple has split.
Sean first filed for separation in December 2007, but his petition was dismissed. Three days later Robin filed her own paperwork, but in April 2008, they made a request to have their divorce petition dismissed because they wanted to give their relationship another chance.
But it looks like the thirds time the charm for this couple. Sean is already acting like a single man on the prowl, so we doubt there's any hope of a reconciliation, at least on Robin's part. Did the split shock you? Who do you predict Sean dating next?

Robin filed divorce papers in Marin County, Calif., on Wednesday, Aug. 12. According to the papers, "both parties have already agreed to [shared] custody" over their minor son, Hopper Jack, 16, and that "the estranged couple have already agreed to division of all property," reports People magazine.
In an interview with More magazine that was released on Monday, Robin said she had no plans to reconcile with Sean. "I hit that crossroad a while ago…the 'I know what I don't want' was flashing in neon lights."
She added: "I have no regrets. I, we, have two amazing children we raised together."
This isn't the first time the couple has decided to split. They filed for legal separation not once, but twice! Sean withdrew papers back in May, which led us to believe they were reconciling again, but it’s the first time they've officially filed for divorce.
Sean was rumored to have hooked up with Natalie Portman just two weeks after he filed for legal separation. They were reportedly caught "canoodling" in a West Hollywood bar. Of course both parties denied the rumors, but that didn't stop tabloids from running with the story.
It's sad that after thirteen years of marriage and two kids, they couldn't make things work, but sometimes people are better off alone. We wish them both the best! Wonder which young starlet Sean will date next?

But now it seems they are off again. In the current issue of More magazine, Robin says there won’t be a reconciliation between her and Sean after all. She says, "I hit that crossroad a while ago…the 'I know what I don't want' was flashing in neon lights."
She adds: "I have no regrets. I, we, have two amazing children we raised together."
Robin, who has three new movies coming out, says she’s trying to stay positive about this new chapter in her life. She says, “There’s clarity of life now. I think I’ve always been a follow-the-leader with my career, or maybe waiting for things to happen. Now I’m like, ‘I’m OK—I know the direction, whoever’s on board can go with me... I think I f--ked myself by not being strong enough. Waffling—you know, ‘Can I do this?’”
“I think that’s being young and finding out who you are, and all of a sudden, post-40, you just go, ‘I do know. I have the answer.’ There’s not as much questioning of my abilities.”
There still hasn’t been any confirmation of whether or not Sean was really having an affair with Natalie Portman, or if it was just a rumor. But it seems they’ve finally decided to call it quits. After so much back-and-forth “are they or aren’t they,” sadly this may be the best thing for the relationship.

According to People, Sean filed a request today to dismiss his legal separation case in Marin County, CA. This is the second time Penn has rescinded his divorce papers.
The couple filed for legal separation on April 29th, so maybe the affair rumors with Natalie Portman brought Sean and Robin closer! We can’t keep up.
Penn tells the New York Daily News that filing for legal separation “was an arrogant mistake.”
A lawyer for Sean Penn didn't immediately return a call for comment. As for Robin Wright Penn, she’s been at the Cannes Film Festival, where she’s a member of the jury, since last week.
Think they can make it work this time??

In the issue, Robin talks to Gotham magazine about weathering marital storms, her kids reading about her in the tabloids, her studio versus indie films and where she goes to get her news. Here are some highlights from the interview:
Robin on marriage: "That's the work, but that's what you sign up for. And it pays off beautifully, it really does. The outcome, the reward is so great because then your love grows out of those hard times. You have a companion, a partner in it-you're going through the hard times together, and you come out on the other side. And another wave of difficulty will arise and you'll have the experience of how great the reward was last time. The conditioning of faith is what prevails."
Robin on her kids keeping up with celebrity tabloids and news shows: “I mean, they buy their trash mags and watch Entertainment Tonight and all that stuff, but I think it’s so boring because they’ve lived it for so long that it’s not of interest.”
Robin on how she gets her news: "[For] news, probably the Internet or whatever comes up on the screen, or I'll watch CNN. But otherwise, no, I'm not a blog wonk or anything like that. Not into the Facebook ‘social networking' thing. I'd rather sit in the living room and have a conversation with a friend."
Robin on her upcoming role in this summer’s indie movie, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee and her big budget movies: “I don’t really gauge the quality between those two. The only difference is your trailer is a bit smaller and you have less time to shoot the indie films.” She continues, “It’s really about the material, and who you’re working with. Pippa was something we had been trying to do for a year… that was truly a passion project.”
