Tony Stark is down for the count…
The actor responsible for portraying the man made of iron is showing off his more malleable side. Robert Downey Jr. has injured himself on the set of Iron Man 3, causing filmmakers to hit the pause button on production.
The actor went down hard while filming an action sequence for the third film in the series. Production was underway in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Marvel Studios released the following statement…
"Robert Downey Jr. sustained an ankle injury on the set of Iron Man 3 in Wilmington, North Carolina while performing a stunt. There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates."
Hollyscoop has contacted Robert’s rep who refused to comment further on the accident.
But a little downtime is not much to ask for the big man on campus. When your last appearance as Iron Man helped earn The Avengers nearly $1.5 billion internationally (which earned him a hefty $50 million bonus), sitting a dance or two out isn’t exactly frowned upon.
No word yet on when filming is expected to begin again…
Production company insurance seems to be getting its money’s worth lately, as on set injuries seem to be a common occurrence.
Last month, Kristin Chenoweth had a lighting rig fall on her head while filming for the television series “The Good Wife.” Since then, it’s been learned that she will not be returning to complete the role.
Chenoweth was spotted early this week on her feet but still in a neck brace, emerging from a doctor’s office with a male friend.
We can only hope that our leading action man’s injuries are less serious.
