Robert Downey Jr. says he was incredibly fearful before his wife gave birth to their new son Exton Elias on February 7 of this year. Uhhmmm, Robert? You’re not the one that has to push a watermelon out of your va-jay-vay, what are you so scared about?
Downey Jr tells the May issue of Esquire, “There was all this trepidation, all this projection, all the anticipation and goodwill and a good vibe about it. But what you’re squeezing to the side – or what’s in the glove box – is these thousands of forms of fear. And then he was born and they’ve all just kind of scattered now. It seems like he’s always been here.”
What could Downey Jr. be so scared off? He’s Iron Man!
“Hero, to me, is not applicable to the human experience,” says Downey Jr.
Got it! Is it just me, or is he super uptight?
“I don’t want to be so confident in myself,” adds Downey Jr., “It’s that balance between being relaxed enough to be communicating anxiety and present enough to not be creating the very thing that you were anxious about nm being so relaxed – because I’ve seen that parenting style, too.”
In other news, Robert Downey Jr is now teaching a class on parenting. It’s called “How to give a magazine interview about parenting that sounds like a philosophy class.”
