Robert Downey, Jr. and his wife, Susan, have welcomed a baby boy into the world early this morning. I mean, it’s always too early to be having a baby, but this thing came in at 7:24a.m.
Robert’s rep confirmed the news and ridiculously early time of arrival to People.
A source said: “Everyone is healthy and they couldn’t be happier. Exton Elias Downey, who, yes, sounds like he was named after a major oil and gas company, weighed in at 7lb 5oz and measured 20 inches long.
Robert also has an 18 year-old son, Indio, from his previous marriage to Deborah Falconer.
When it was revealed that he was expecting another child, he accidentally revealed on live television that he and his wife were expecting a boy. His wife was initially shocked at his faux-pas, but then later said:
"I could never really stay mad at him, but I can tell you it genuinely wasn't something we planned to reveal."
But Robert did manage to stay mum on the baby’s name. “If I told you the name, then she would lop off my head with a machete.”
That could be painful.
Downey, Jr. recently admitted that becoming a father for a second time made him consider slowing down a bit, possibly hinting at a retirement, a la Brad Pitt.
"Life is good. With a new baby on the way, maybe I ought to think about slowing down a little.”
But don’t worry. Robert says that won’t be happening anytime soon:
“I can't see that happening in the short term."
