Hot off the success of The Avengers, Robert Downey Jr. has strapped back into his iconic Iron Man suit to begin filming on the third installment of the Iron Man franchise.
In the just released stills, we see Downey Jr. gazing at his various Iron Man suits, like, which one do I put on today? Save the world or take a joy ride?
Filming has begun in Wilmington, North Carolina with production to include locations in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina, Miami, Florida and China.
Jon Favreau will not direct the third flick, instead Shane Black is at the helm. Other new faces in the trilogy include Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian.
Of course, Gwyneth Paltrow will reprise her role as Iron Man’s lover/bookkeeper Pepper Potts and Don Cheadle will return as James Rhodes/War Machine. For guys everywhere, I’m sorry to inform you that Scarlet Johansson will not be reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff in the film. You’ll have to see The Avengers again if you want to hear her non-Russian Russian accent ever again.
Crossing our fingers for a Thor and/or Captain America cameo, though according to IMDB, it’s seeming very unlikely.
This marks the second feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009 and made their big screen super-hero debut with last months The Avengers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Downey stands to make about $50 million from The Avengers.
His "Avengers" co-stars reportedly stand to make a fraction of his earnings, in part because of a savvy deal Downey reportedly renegotiated, under which he would receive a portion of Marvel's revenue from any future film in which he plays Tony Stark. He allegedly renegotiated the deal when the first "Iron Man" film dialed up $585 million in 2008.
