Prosecutor Jeff Ashton: \'I\'m Flattered\' To Be Played By Rob Lowe In Casey Anthony Movie
Rob Lowe has just signed on to play Jeff Ashton, the Florida prosecutor in the recent Casey Anthony trial, in an upcoming Lifetime TV movie.

The actor most recently starred in a Lifetime flick playing Drew Peterson, the man charged with the death of his ex-wife, so clearly Rob Lowe is King when it comes to TV movie adaptations of high-profile murder cases.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the Casey Anthony biopic has a working title of “Prosecuting Casey Anthony,” and will be told from the perspective of Jeff Ashton, Lowe’s character.

Jeff Ashton told Hollyscoop exclusively that he’s flattered someone as handsome as Rob Lowe is playing him in the flick.

“I’m flattered that Lifetime has chosen Rob Lowe, a Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominee, to play me… I wish I had his boyish good looks. When I told my wife, she asked “So does that mean I’m married to Rob Lowe now?” I look forward to meeting him.”

The TV movie will be based on Ashton’s book, “Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony.”

Lifetime is just as excited about the casting choice.

“We’re thrilled to have Rob returning to our network, after his amazing star turn as Drew Peterson. He’s one of those rare stars who can do it all, comedy, drama, heroes and villains,” says Lifetime Networks spokesman Rob Sharenow.

Quick backstory on the Casey Anthony trial:

Last year, Anthony was found not-guilty of killing her daughter Caylee, and received a ton of public outcry that the verdict should have been guilty.

Anthony’s daughter Caylee was reported missing during the summer of 2008, Anthony’s defense claimed Caylee drowned accidentally. Anthony was not found guilty of killing Caylee, but only convicted of lying to authorities. She was sentenced to four years in prison but was credited with time served.
