Could Rihanna be returning to the big screen in something that actually looks worth watching (No offense, Battleship)?
The R&B singer has been tapped to portray 1920s icon Josephine Baker, the late French-American performer who became famous for provocatively dancing in nothing but a tutu and fake bananas.
Or what could basically pass as any of Rihanna’s stage costumes in 2013.
“Rihanna is one of the most talented performers of this millennium and with her unique acting and performing abilities, I have no doubt she will bring Josephine back to life on the big screen,” producer W Lance Reynolds said in a statement.
Of course, Josephine went on to become an international music sensation and the first woman to appear in a mainstream feature film, Zouzou, released in 1934. She then used her fame to bring greater awareness to the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. and was a figure for the French Resistance in WWII.
Rihanna hasn’t agreed to anything involving this biopic since this producer’s statement, or responded to any speculative reports.
