Leukemia Patient's Mom Accuses Rihanna of PR Stunt

March 01, 2010
by:

Last month, 6-year-old Jasmina Anema passed away from leukemia. During her battle, she caught the attention of Rihanna, whom she was a huge fan of.

Rihanna visited little Jasmina numerous times in the hospital, helped to raise money for her medical bills, and used her notoriety to seek a bone marrow transplant for her.

But since Jasmina’s passing on January 28th, the girl’s mother says she hasn’t heard from Rihanna. In fact, a tweet was posted from the account ONEFORJASMINA read today, "It has been a month since Jasmina's passing. Still not even a card or text message from Rihanna. Did she use my child for a publicity stunt?"

The post has since been removed, but it was retweeted by dozens of other Twitter followers. A new post reads: "Apparently there are some negative blogs out there. For the record, Rihanna has been nothing but really nice!!!"

So what does Jasmina’s mother Thea Amina really think about Rihanna? She denies even writing the post to People. "Friends have helped me with all kinds of stuff and many know the passwords to my personal e-mail, the Caringbridge site and also Twitter," Anema says. "Although I did not Tweet this particular one, I do wish that Rihanna had responded to me on Jasmina's passing. It would have meant the world to me."

Though that may seem a little harsh, given how much Rihanna cared for her, Thea does seem to see the whole picture. "Jasmina adored her," she continues. "Rihanna was so kind to come and visit her. I just felt hurt not hearing anything from her. Or of any other celebrities for that matter. The only ones who reached out to me personally during this time of grief were the Obamas."

Do you think Jasmina’s mother (and friends that tweeted the post) is justified in calling out Rihanna? Or should she have contacted the mother after being so involved with her daughter? Tell us your thoughts!

uh gee, i feel for the mother who have lost her child. but did she ever think that maybe Rhianna has a life. star don't have time for each and every fan. if i was a fan of Rhianna and my dying wish was to see her, even for a minute that's would be enough. Think about this; how many fans are going to take time, out of their daily life to see how a star is doing. this is the real world, so lighten up.

Rihanna WAS wrong for not showing any sympathy but I think the mom's statement of other celebrities is quite questionable!

Seriously, it seems to me like little Jasmina's mom was probably the one seeking publicity. I am very sorry for her loss but I don't understand how she could be looking for sympathy from "other celebrities" as she put it. I kind of understand where she is coming from, however I don't see where celebrities (or anyone who doesn't know Jasmina personally) should make Thea's loss their main priority. EVERYBODY expiriences loss and I'm sure Jasmina is not the only child in the world who has lost a battle with cancer. Thea should ask for forgiveness for being so shallow in her loss. I think she was using her daughter's condition for publicity and now she is trying to do the same with her death!

oh wow,in my opinioun the one statement of other celebs let alone Rihanna not contacting seems fishy honestly,it seems like the mom wants some 15 min of fame.

OK, this is why celebrities don't get involved. They R damned if they do and damned if they don't. Kevinlisa above me said it all. On the other hand, her publicist could have sent a card of condolense. Isn't that what they are paid for? My heartfelt sympathy for the family. May you heal and not be bitter against Rihanna.

No matter how busy, a sympathy card, tweet, e-mail, or phone call was in order. Her appearance with the child did help bring the illness and donations (bone marrow) to the public forum, but a mother lost her child. The proper thing to do is acknowledge the pain and loss. Have we become so callous as a society, that we don't send condolences anymore?

I'm not a huge Rihanna fan, but she did help raise money for her medical bills and was there to make her daughter happy when she needed it. She didn't have to do any of it.

Rihanna's as fake as her hair color. Anyone who actually thinks this broad really cares about a single sick little girl, is a simple-minded fool. Had Jasminas' illness not been so highly televised, it wouldn't have even OCCURED to Rihanna to reach-out. JMHO. If so, why not open a charity for the REMAINING children with the same sickness, or other deadly diseases? Why isn't she at THEIR bedsides? I don't want to hear any bullshit about her "busy schedule", either. If she REALLY wanted to support a meaningful cause, she'd make the time. Same way she finds time to falsely color her mop top, paint-on her "second (prettier) face" every other 6 hours, shop, shop some MORE, etc. I don't buy for ONE SECOND that she cared that much about little Jasmina Amena. Whoever does has been ripped-off. Period.

what is up with this dimwit below me??? does she personally know rihanna??? it baffles me when people say a celebrity "would never do that..." since it's so dumb to even utter it. i think about 75% of most of the charity work done publicly by celebrities come from their PR people and they're there to smile and put on a show and it's not from their hearts. there, i said it. and i believe that's the truth. but i don't think ALL of them are completely self centered and i think some of them do have a heart, or something resembling it. look, you have to be a bit of a narcissist to even be a celebrity, so yes, she probably did use it from the start as something her PR people made her do. but maybe she cared in the end, maybe not. only rihanna knows and she has to live with that.
