Ricky Gervais didn’t hold back in the least last night during his Golden Globes hosting duties. He attacked numerous Hollywood heavyweights, which we all expected. But he apparently crossed the line when he made fun of Philip Berk, the head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
A member of the HFPA tells Popeater.com, "Ricky will not be invited back to host the show next year, for sure. For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated. He humiliated the organization last night and went too far with several celebrities whose representatives have already called to complain."
Here are the quotes that probs got him fired for good:
"I'd like to quash the rumors that the only reason The Tourist was nominated was so that the Hollywood Foreign Press can hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That is rubbish, that is not the only reason. They also accepted bribes."
"I'm sorry more members of the foreign press aren't with us tonight, but many were deported right before the show along with most of the waiters. And Javier Bardem."
Introducing HFPA president Philip Berk: "I just had to help him off the toilet and pop his teeth in.”
"Ricky blew it big time. It's one thing to make fun of celebrities but it's another to make them totally uncomfortable," an insider says. "People in that room were furious but had to sit and smile because the camera's were on them. It really says something when several people who attended said they would have felt safer with Kathy Griffin hosting."
If you ask me, most of the people in the audience weren’t fake smiling! Every time the camera panned to the audience, someone was talking sh*t or rolling their eyes! But I thought Ricky was funny, and he’s obviously got everyone talking today!
Gervais didn’t think he was going to go too far during the show. He told the U.K. Press Association prior to the show, "I think I'll go just close enough to the edge but not go over it," he said. "I'm not worried about the celebrities, they're alright, they're not scary!"
Ricky may not ever be asked to host the Globes again, but how much you wanna bet he’s in the running for future Oscar hosts?!
