Celebs Find Ricky Gervais 'Charming' At 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards

We were all looking forward to hearing what Ricky Gervais had to say about the world of entertainment at this year’s 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

While Ricky started off strong, he eased up on the celebs this year. Nothing about Ashton’s cheating. Nothing about George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s bromance. And not even one mention of Charlie Sheen’s massive meltdown.

So what did the celebs think? Hollyscoop caught up with the stars on the red carpet to see what they thought of Ricky Gervais’ hosting at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

Model Elle McPherson said that Ricky could’ve taken it up a notch.

“He could’ve been a little snarkier,” Elle told Hollyscoop. “You kind of expect so much more because he keeps outdoing himself.”

So why can Ricky get away with his scathing humor?

“He can’t do anything wrong because he’s so endearing and charming,” McPherson told us. “Very clever. I think he should do it every year…as long as I’m not on the other end of it, I don’t have a problem with it.”

Singer Janelle Monae told Hollyscoop: “[Ricky] was funny. Everybody knows he’s a comedian and was prepared because he’s a celebrity. He’s not just some guy on the street saying mean comments.”

Hmmm, that might make for an interesting show though!

E! host Ashlan Gorse said her favorite Ricky joke was when he made fun of Jodie Foster’s beaver:

“I’m not supposed to mention Jodie Foster’s beaver,” Gervais said. “I haven’t seen it myself. I’ve spoken to a lot of guys here, they haven’t seen it either. That doesn’t mean it’s not any good.”

Gorse told us: “To be in the limelight and be a celebrity, you HAVE to have a sense of humor. He’s not uber-mean, he’s just funny.”

Johnny

Chuck star Mekenna Melvin told Hollyscoop: “[Ricky] recovered this year with the back and forth with Johnny Depp.”

Last year, Gervais joked about Depp’s less-than-stellar movie The Tourist, and then this year, Ricky asked Depp if he’d seen in yet.

We asked reality star Tamara Mowery if she thought Ricky went too far. “Oh no! I love him!” Mowery told Hollyscoop. “I get the British humor. It can be seen as harsh but I think he’s really funny.”

Former Playboy model Kendra Wikinson said “I’m obsessed with him! I think he’s hilarious!”

And ex Saved By the Bell star, Tiffani Amber Thiessen agreed:

“I am such a huge fan of his. I love Ricky! Anything he does is awesome.”
