Renee Zellweger. biography
Renée Kathleen Zellweger was born on April 25, 1969, in Katy, Texas, and discovered her appreciation for acting through a required fine arts credit while studying at the University of Austin.
After graduating in 1991, Zellweger made her first on-screen appearance in the drama thriller A Taste for Killing (1992) before landing a more substantial role opposite Texas-native Matthew McConaughey in the horror flick Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994). Two years later, Zellweger stormed the Hollywood scene and secured her spot as an up-and-rising luminary with a well-received performance in the dramedy Jerry Maguire (1996).
Unlike other Hollywood newcomers coming off from a box office hit, Zellweger decided against doing another blockbuster film and instead relied on independent flicks to showoff her acting chops, such as the romance drama A Price Above Rubies (1998) and through a critically acclaimed performance opposite Meryl Streep in the drama One True Thing (1998).
A year later, Zellweger transitioned into a Hollywood sweetheart following starring roles in a string of romantic comedies, including The Bachelor (1999), Nurse Betty (2000), Me, Myself & Irene (2000) and Bridget Jones's Diary (2001).
In 2002, the rising starlet began to prove her versatility as an actress with memorable performances in the drama White Oleander and the musical Chicago for which she earned the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in 2003.
Ensuing her Golden Globe win, Zellweger co-starred alongside Ewan McGregor in the romantic comedy Down With Love (2003) before joining forces with Nicole Kidman in the war drama Cold Mountain (2003), which led to Zellweger taking home her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2004. She then reprised her role in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and later co-starred alongside Russell Crowe in the biopic drama Cinderella Man (2005).
The following year, Zellweger earned a Golden Globe nomination for her accurate portrayal of the best-selling children's author Beatrix Potter in the biopic Miss Potter (2006).
Zellweger then took a step back from groundbreaking roles to make appearances in several lackluster films, including the dramedy Leatherheads (2008), the western drama Appaloosa (2008), the romantic comedy New in Town (2009) and the biopic comedy My One and Only (2009). Soon after, she was able to make her presence vaguely noticed in the horror thriller Case 39 (2009) as well as the dramedy My Own Love Song (2010).
Zellweger's most recent projects include, Bridget Jones's Baby (release date unknown) and the dramedy 4 ½ Minutes (2014) alongside Ed Harris and Johnny Knoxville.
