Regis Philbin

Clearance! Everything must go!

Regis Philbin just unloaded his Connecticut home for about half of what he was originally asking for it. So who bought it? Andy Cohen? Rob Lowe? Mark Consuelos?

Nope, it’s Raymond LaChance. A regular dude who told The Greenwich Times that while Regis Philbin being the former owner is “kind of neat,” it didn’t influence his decision to purchase the home.

Ever since Regis Philbin announced a couple months ago that he would be retiring as one of the co-hosts of Live! With Regis and Kelly, many have been speculating who would fill his old spot.

Nick Lachey hosted alongside Kelly for a co-hosting stint during October, so does that mean Mr. Lachey could be the new Regis Philbin?

“Well first of all no one takes Regis’s spot,” Lachey told Hollyscoop at the Sing Off Live finale, “Regis is an absolute legend of our industry and he cannot be replaced, that’s first and foremost. But that situation if it ever was an option for me to dive into, I would welcome that opportunity,”

So he’s saying there’s a chance?

It all depends on who Kelly Ripa has the most compatibility with, and when Lachey co-hosted the show last month, Ripa and Lachey proved they would make a cute co-hosting couple.
Don't MISS out on Breaking News!
Regis Philbin holds the world's record for most hours in U.S. television. So, the man needs a break. On Friday Regis made his exit from his long-running show, Live With Regis and Kelly. Which of course, used to be Live With Regis and Kathie Lee.

Reg kept good on his promise to not cry on Friday's farewell show, which was pretty much one big tribute to the man. Ripa read a letter to him about the "43 steps" they took together each morning to the stage. Ripa said:

"You always want to make me feel like a million bucks," Ripa said to Philbin.

Regis' goodbye was saved for last:

"Some people ask, why has the show stayed on so long? And I think it's answered to me every time people tell me why they watch it.
Hollywood is filled with too many hot twenty-something, talented 30 year olds, and respected talents in their 40's and 50's, but what about the stars that are pushing it over the hill, and I mean waaayyy over the hill? These are the sexiest sexagenarions, the awesome old people and just our favorite over 60 stars.

These are our favorite "Over-60" stars:

Helen Mirren: Err, I mean, DAME Helen Mirren, which means she's a knight, like a lady knight, and while I don't know what that means, it's probably really cool. Helen Mirren was voted the Sexiest Lady over the age 60 by AskMen.com and when Hollyscoop asked her about the honor she joked, "[It] sucks, I can't tell you. So depressed." The gracious 66 year-old has a hot bod too, which inspired SNL to create a digital short called "Helen Mirren's Boobs."

Kirstie Alley: I kind of forgot about Kirstie Alley for a while but then she appeared on "Dancing With The Stars" reportedly lost 100 pounds and is now strutting her stuff like some kind of 60-year-old show pony. Don't get me wrong, she looks super hot and is doing runway shows during fashion week for designer Zang Toi, she also is taking full advantage of her hotter-cougar status saying, "This is what I think about sex. I think it's fun to hookup every night for six months...Then it's time to move on!"
Ever since Regis Philbin announced that he was retiring from Live With Regis and Kelly, there have been rumors about his possible replacement.

All the rumors have been of male co-hosts, but apparently the frontrunner is a woman.

According to Popeater, Lisa Rinna is reportedly the top choice to replace Regis.

“Lisa has proved she can do the job,” an insider said.

“She has co-hosted the show with Regis, filled in for Joy Behar on her show and was even better than Billy Bush when she stepped into his shoes on Access Hollywood’s new daytime show.”

That would be an awesome gig for Lisa! The only problem would be that Kelly and Lisa are both high-strung and we might actually get dizzy watching the two together. I'm still rooting for Kelly's husband to get the gig!
Is Regis Philbin confused in his old age, or just really motivated?!

Just one day after announcing he was leaving Regis and Kelly, he’s fired his agent of 30 years, and decided he’s ready for a “career change,” this according to Deadline.

Philbin reportedly dumped his agent Jim Griffin at Paradigm for greener pastures, and it sounds like Griffin is pissed! "When I first met Regis, he hadn't worked in a year and a half and here we are," Griffin said, adding, "we've had a great run. It's obviously very sad.”

Regis Philbin Announces Retirement

So what on earth will Regis do next?! If it were a few months ago, I’d think he’d have been in the running for Larry King’s job, but that’s out too!

Apparently this ambiguous career move is a big one in Philbin’s eyes, though he’s acting pretty secretive about it!

Why can’t he just be like any other 80-year old dude and go retire in Boca?
Regis Philbin announced that he is retiring from his talk show after nearly 25 years. Yup, he had a good run!

Regis, who is 79-years old made the big announcement this morning on "Live with Regis and Kelly."

He even joked during his announcement saying, "There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people."

Philbin has had an amazing career in television. He has been a television personality since the 1950s. His "LIVE" talk show premiered in 1988 as "Live with Regis & Kathie Lee."

First it was Larry King and now Regis Philbin. I wonder who's next? Barbara?
After thinking about this for a second, it totally makes sense. Word is that Ryan Seacrest is tapped to take Regis Philbin's place on Live when he retires.

Regis is about to celebrate his twentieth anniversary on the show, and it's time for a change!  Of course this would mean a humungo contract for Ryan, but Regis isn't doing too bad in the paycheck department, so it wouldn't be a huge hit on the show.

Ryan is so great on the radio, and it seems like his days at E! News are numbered, just based on his lack of interest in the topics. Maybe a move to the Big Apple is just what Ry Guy needs! Do you think he'd gel with Kelly as a co-host?

Regis Philbin will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Daytime Emmys this year in June at the Kodak Theater. Regis has been in the business for forty years, and he's still going strong at 76. He got his start 40 years ago as host of A.M. Los Angeles, on which he appeared for seven years.

In 1983, he created The Morning Show for WABC New York, which quickly rose to No. 1 in the market. Kathie Lee Gifford joined him in 1985, and the program went into national syndication in September 1988 with the new title Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.

When Gifford left the program in 2000, Kelly Ripa came on as co-host in 2001, smoothly transitioning the show into its next era. Congrats, Reeg!
