Now that
Reese Witherspoon and
Jake Gyllenhaal have officially broken up, we’re all dying to know what caused the split! Their reps denied the rumor when it popped up weeks ago. But now we hear that may have been for the sake of Reese’s two children, Ava and Deacon.
A source close to the couple says, "No one cheated. There was no drama." Another adds that the two "fought constantly in the past few months.”
Apparently Jake wanted to propose to Reese and settle down. But Reese, already having gotten divorced in the past, was wary to take that step again. "She felt pressured to wed again but she wasn't ready," an insider says. "She couldn't give Jake enough and she got cold feet. Jake wanted all of her."
Reese, a very hands-on mom, felt it was difficult to balance her time between Jake and the kids. "When she was giving all of her energy to Jake, she felt like she wasn't giving her kids enough," the source says. "He was great with the kids, but she felt like he didn't get the whole scope of what that entailed."
The insider says the two officially split in early December as first reported by
People, and that it was really hard on Jake. "It broke his heart,” says the source.
It’s so unfortunate that Reese’s first marriage to Ryan Phillippe is part of the reason she and Jake didn’t work out. He seems like he would be a great husband and father. Maybe they just need a little time to figure things out!
