It was bound to happen. Rebecca Black says ever since her hit, Friday went viral, she's been teased mercilessly at school.
"When I walk by they'll start singing 'Friday' in a really nasally voice," Black told ABC's Nightline. "Or you know, they'll be like, 'Oh, hey, Rebecca, guess what day it is?"
Really, this is what bullying is nowadays? Because that's nothing. I remember days of kids getting their heads dunked in toilets and being called names. Black's mom, Georgina Marquez, agreed to take her daughter out of school because the students were so mean.
"She certainly did not need that kind of pressure," Marquez says.
See, this is what happens when you take someone with a 100 million ironic views and make a star out of them. They actually think they're a star. And then when people tell them they're anything less, and make fun of a video that deserved to be made fun of, they turn into a diva.
Now, the death threats, I can understand getting your feelings hurt over. Plus, YouTube commenters are like, the worst people on the planet. I'm not sure why YouTube people can't leave normal comments like, "I like that video" or "I did not like that video." It's always, "This video is so @#$%% good, if you think it's not @#$@%$ good, I'll kill you," or "I hate this video. You look @#$% ugly. I'll kill you." They're insane.
But Black read those comments and said, "Those hurtful comments really shocked me…At times, it feels like I'm being cyber-bullied."
Girl, we're all being cyber bullied. Just take solace in the fact that 90% of people who start fights on the Internet haven't been out of their parents' basement in months.
Looks like Black is getting a true dose of Hollywood. The singer was recently the subject of pregnancy rumors. You know you've made it.
"Waking up to a rumor that you're pregnant is not fun," Black said. "It's just frustrating, because I mean, I'm still, like, excited over my first kiss."
At any rate, Black is being home schooled now, which a lot of celebrities opt for after being bullied at school. Poor Emma Watson had to drop out of Brown University because of bullying. Her classmates would yell, "Three points for Grynfflndor!" whenever she got a question right in class. Ivy League my ass.
Robert Pattinson got bullied, too. And real bullied, not just people saying the name of the movie/song/video he was in. "I got beaten up by a lot of people when I was younger. I was a bit of an idiot, but I always thought the assaults were unprovoked…I liked to behave like an actor, or how I thought an actor was supposed to be, and that apparently provoked a lot of people into hitting me.
Miley Cyrus dealt with mean girls, too. "These were big, tough girls [known as] the Anti-Miley Club," Cyrus wrote in Miles to Go. The apparently shoved her into a bathroom during class and locking her inside once. "I spent what felt like an hour in there, waiting for someone to rescue me, wondering how my life had gotten so messed up," Cyrus said of the incident.
Kind of makes asking you what day of the week it is seem mild.
