So if you’ve been watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills this season you’ll learn that Kim Richards appears like a low-key drunk. She slurs her words and onetime said she was sad she “missed the airport” because she “likes the planes there.”
But if you watch closely, you’ll realize she’s not drunk, she just has that Beverly Hills prescription drug haze. Go to any nail salon in Beverly Hills and all the women have slurred speech, heavy eyelids, and can’t remember if the left their tea cup Chihuahua in their handbag or at the Pilates studio.
Kim’s apparent drunken behavior is actually a result of her taking three different medications. While visiting Adrienne Maloof’s husband, Paul Nassif, at his plastic surgery practice, she reveals that she takes a combination of anti-anxiety medication Lexapro, antidepressant Trazadone, and anti-seizure medication Topamax.
Nassif says that this is a relief, because in LA, being high on prescription drugs is always better than being drunk… because prescriptions cost more.
“I'm glad you told me this, because now it all makes sense," Nassif tells her. "[The combination] is going to make you slur the words a little bit. It's going to make you out of it."
He adds, “I’ve had patients come in that are on two or three of these and I thought they were drunk.”
All of Richards co-stars have assumed she’s drunk all season. New cast member Brandi Glanville accused her of being “wasted out of her f-cking mind” and said that she was doing crystal meth. Which is so not true, because Kim Richards is too rich to do crystal meth.
But alas, Kim is not drunk or high, just sedated because of too many prescribed medications. She told the cameras, “I am afraid that people think I’m drinking” and says she hasn’t had anything to drink “for a while.”
And by “for a while” she means “since breakfast.”
Nassif, who used to think Richards was always drunk was surprised when she revealed she was taking so many medications.
“This is why everyone’s going, you know, ‘Is she on something right now?’” says Nassif, “It’s the damn medication.”
But despite clearing up the “drunk or not drunk” storyline on this week’s episode, Kim’s sister Kyle still doesn’t think Kim is truly happy.
Kim confesses that she’s moving in with her new boyfriend and says, “For once in my life, I just want to do something that I want to do.”
To which Kyle responds, “I just want you to be happy, but I don’t think you are.”
So. Much. Drama.
