Country crooner Randy Travis has been plagued with run-ins with the law, most involving DUI’s and bizarre drunken behavior.
On Saturday, his truck was found damaged and abandoned in a field but police in Frisco, Texas have not reported that Travis was driving at the time of the wreck.
Dr. Karen Khaleghi, who has appeared as a medical expert on Dr. Phil and is the co-founder of Creative Care rehab facility in Malibu, Calif. weighs in on Randy’s legal woes, most notably his naked DWI arrest earlier this month and his public intoxication arrest in February.
“Randy Travis is clearly struggling with addiction…reports of drinking problems go back as far as the mid ‘90s,” says Dr. Karen Khaleghi.
Some might say that drinking problems and country music go hand-in-hand. Unfortunately, the country music industry tends to accept addiction, making it difficult to break the habit.
“In recent times Randy has faced a great deal of life stress with changes in career and a divorce in 2010. In an industry and a genre that accepts the hard drinking lifestyle, there are now those that express the need for Randy to get help,” adds Dr. Khaleghi.
Does that make Randy Travis a possible recruit for a future season of “Celebrity Rehab?” Maybe.
“Randy can certainly be helped and most effectively in treating both his addiction and emotional issues at the same time,” says Dr. Khaleghi.
