"We've been doing auditions and she's rising above," Jackson told PEOPLE. "She's strong, she's a trooper, she's a great girl. She's amazing."
Jackson also performed at the event, and you gotta love him, but he was nothing compared to Lopez. Lopez performed Papi, wearing a skimpy red outfit that made me realize I really, really need to hit the gym.

Steven and fellow judge Randy Jackson confessed that the 10th season of American Idol is the best season so far because they have “amazing talent and amazing energy.” And this season the judges are making as many headlines as the front-runners!
And speaking of front-runners, Steven Tyler confessed to Hollyscoop that Casey Abrams is his top pick this season.
Steven told Hollyscoop at the 28th annual PaleyFest at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, “No wonder he was in the hospital, he’s getting cloned. They told him he was winning and he said, ‘I’m cloning my ass.’”
Casey had to miss Thursday's American Idol results show to get blood transfusions to treat his ulcerative colitis. "I AM out of the hospital, feeling so energetic too," Casey tweeted Monday. "I owe it all to #Tigerblood."
And speaking of the hospital trip, Randy added, “He’s an amazing talented guy, we just hope he stays healthy and continues in the competition.”
So has Casey already won the judges votes? “You never know he’s definitely really amazingly talented. Being a bass player I love him. Still to early to tell,” said Randy.
But Steven was crystal clear— Casey is a rare talent. “Out of everybody, not only does he know he can sing…he sing a verse scan it and play the bass like no one on the planet can. That is where this guy is at, he just doesn’t care, he’s in a place called “F All” where you don’t care anymore and you let your stuff fly.”
A couple of hospital trips are clearly not going to keep Casey out of the race. Do you think he has it to be the next American Idol? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

Michael's brother Randy has come out and said he doesn't support plans for a Michael Jackson Memorial Tribute in their hometown of Gary, Indiana, even though his mother Katherine loves the idea.
AEG Pays $1 Million for Jackson Memorial
Writing in a number of twitter posts, Randy said: “Hello everyone, I'm back and healthy. Thank you for your loving comments and prayers. Thank you all, but there is so much to address in such little time. Where should I start?
“Let’s start with my family. There is a common concern about their lack of support and unity especially now that we're approaching June 25th.
"please understand im going to be direct and to the point because there is such little time but your support speeds up the process. This is a very difficult time for me and my family. I read your tweets and we share the same frustration. I see what you see and I dont agree with many of their choices but they are my family and i do love them.
Visit Michael Jackson's Memorial
“Surprising as it may seem, this is the case.... Im putting myself in the hot seat. I have nothing to lose.. I am not in support of the Gary event/trip or whatever it is... Im tired but I promise to continue this discussion first thing in the morn."
Regardless of how Randy feels about the memorial, Katherine Jackson will attend the memorial service because she thinks it's what Michael would have wanted.

The brother of Michael Jackson complained of the pain earlier today and was then rushed to the Huntington Memorial in Pasadena, CA.
A family rep says: "Randy is doing as well as can be expected. This is the first time he has ever felt pain like this. He doesn't want to take any chances. He wants to make sure that he's well enough to make his brother's anniversary a memorable day for his family and Michael's fans."
He was just in court yesterday for the Dr. Conrad Murray hearing. That would give us chest pains too!
Our thoughts are with him, and we're glad he's being more safe than sorry. Chest pains are not something you want to just let go! Feel better, Randy!

Go Jabbas!! Have you seen there nifty lil' commercial lately? This dance-off was a big hit for MTV in its first season, the No. 1 cable show on Thursday night in their crucial 12-34 demographic. As the second season opens, 10 new crews will be stepping, spinning and dancing their hearts out, each hoping to become the next JabbaWockeeZ (last season's winners). Back from last season are host Mario Lopez and judges JC Chasez, Lil Mama and Shane Sparks.
So You Think You Can Dance @ 9pm
This show better watch out, because there's a new kid on the block stealing all its thunder---America's Best Dance Crew! Now you can enjoy your dancing shows back to back. And now that the Top 18 dancers have performed, it's time for the second round of eliminations. One male and one female dancer will be eliminated, leaving the rest to continue on in the competition as they get closer to the title. It's not all about dancing tonight: You can also catch a performance by rapper Flo Rida.
My Boys @ 9:30 pm
So, why is Windy City sports scribe PJ Franklin always in a romantic slump? Here's a supercool woman who loves all the right Bs — beer, baseball and bars. And let's face it, she is easy on the eyes. But her previous season's romance with a baseball player didn't connect. (Strike one!) Her fling with a botanist wilted. (Strike two!) And her trip to Italy with Bobby remained platonic. (Strike three, yer out!) Tonight, the chipper Chi-towner tries to start a winning streak: She seeks her Mr. Right by throwing a dinner party for singles. Meanwhile, Andy enlists the services of a nanny — "a super hot Swedish nanny," in his words. The boys fawn all over her (no surprise there), but her overly healthy lifestyle soon rubs Andy the wrong way.
Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List @ 10pm
On tonight's time-slot premiere, Kathy puts on her detective cap and conducts background checks on two members of her "posse" -- her assistant's assistant Tiffany and tour manager Tom -- by visiting their hometowns, where she meets their significant others. But how much will she really learn? Kathy also takes a break from her research and performs stand-up during her visit. Later she sets some new goals. First up: winning a Grammy award. Good luck, Kathy!
