Rachel Anne McAdams was born on November 17, 1978, in London, Ontario, and first identified with acting when she was 12-years-old after seeing a children's theatre production.
Rachel later honed her acting skills at Toronto's York University before making her on-screen debut in the made-for-TV sci-fi flick Shotgun Love Dolls (2001).
Following a string of minor roles, including an appearance in the Disney TV series The Famous Jett Jackson (2001), Rachel landed her first supporting role in the comedy The Hot Chick (2002). In 2004, she got her big break playing Regina George in the hit comedy Mean Girls, a memorable performance that put the rising star on Hollywood's most sought-after actresses list.
That same year, Rachel officially reached stardom when she co-starred opposite Ryan Gosling in the romantic drama The Notebook. Her career continued to gain momentum the following year with starring roles in the comedy Wedding Crashers alongside Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, the thriller Red Eye (2005) and the dramedy Family Stone (2005).

Rachel and Ryan Gosling initially began dating while filming The Notebook in 2004. They stayed together for three years before parting ways in 2007. Ryan later expressed his opinion on their breakup, saying, "The only thing I remember is we both went down swingin' and we called it a draw."

After being caught making-out in early 2009, Rachel and fellow-actor Josh Lucas began dating for a couple of months, but it never turned into a serious relationship.
According to rumors, Rachel dated Jude Law's assistant Ben Jackson in December 2009 after meeting on the set of Sherlock Holmes.
August 2010 - February 2013
Rachel first met actor Michael Sheen on the set of Midnight in Paris and began secretly dating soon after. They officially came out as a couple in October 2011 with Rachel later revealing in a 2012 interview with Stella magazine that "Michael and I didn't get together while we were filming Midnight in Paris, which I feel strongly about not doing when I'm working. We became quite good friends, which I think is a great way to start. I felt very blessed to have made a Woody Allen film in Paris together."
However, the romance didn't last and the couple ultimately parted ways in February 2013.
