Much better fit than Lindsay Lohan playing Elizabeth Taylor.
The film, titled Caught in Flight, is going to be directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel and written by Stephen Jeffreys, and it’s said to focus on Diana’s life after her divorce from Prince Charles.
During that time, Diana reinvented herself as a humanitarian and was on the road to finding self-fulfillment before she died in August 1997.
"It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role," Watts said in a statement. "Princess Diana was loved across the world and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen."
The flick also focuses on Diana’s relationship with Dr. Hasnat Khan. Diana dated Khan in 1995, and they broke up in 1997. The People’s Princess rebounded with billionaire Dodi Al-Fayed, who also died during that fatal car crash in Paris.
Last November, there was a rumor that Oscar nominated actress Jessica Chastain was attached to the movie. There are also rumors that there are a couple of other Princess Diana projects in the works, with Keira Knightley, Scarlett Johansson, Carey Mulligan and Charlize Theron all supposedly tied to the projects.
Scarlett’s rep denied any involvement, however, saying: “There is no truth to this—Scarlett has never been approached about this project or read a script.”
The rep added that Johansson “has no interest in playing ‘Diana’ in a biopic.”
