The first photos of Watts as the Princess of Wales have just surfaced, and thanks to a team of stylists, she has one of the most infamous women of our time totally dialed in.
Caught in Flight will document the last couple of years of Diana’s life and focuses on her relationships with Dr. Hasnat Khan, the renowned heart surgeon that was dubbed “the love of her life,” and her following relationship with Dodi Fayed who was with her in the tragic accident that resulted in their deaths - along with that of their driver.
According to the Daily Mail, when she was approached for the role, Watts expressed concern for the lack of shared physical characteristics and admitted to being “absolutely terrified” of the role.
Watts said of the Princess, “She is a part of our history, an incredible woman and fascinating but a tragic ending.” And of the possibility of portraying her, ”The film-makers came to me and it’s a good script and it’s very scary and I kind of wanted to say ‘no’ but I couldn’t.”
Apparently, despite the initial hesitation, we should expect great things. Naveen Andrews (best known for “Lost”) portrays Dr. Khan in the film, and is already singing her praises, despite the fact that it's still only in pre-production.
He says that successful films usually start “with a good script and I’m very happy with the script and Naomi is doing it and she’s wonderful... I’m very much looking forward to shooting.”
He also says of his blonde Academy Award winning co-star, “I don’t think anyone else could have done it - there’s no one else. “
The perfect compliment for the actress chosen to play one of England’s most historically beloved members of the royal family, both before and after her time in the palace.
