Katie Couric sat down with Prince William and Prince Harry in a revealing new interview where the men open up about their late mother Diana, Queen Elizabeth, and the Diamond Jubillee. It’s one of the rare moments to witness the young royals as they get emotional about missing their mother.
“I sort of prepared myself beforehand so that I was sort of mentally prepared,” William says of his wedding, “I didn’t want any wobbly lips or anything going on.”
“It’s the one time since she’s died, where I’ve thought to myself it would be fantastic if she was here, and just how sad really for her, more than anything, not being able to see it.”
The royal brothers have always done a very professional job of putting on a brave face for the media, but you can’t help but get a little teary-eyed knowing that Princess Diana never got to meet the lovely Kate Middleton.
“I think she would have loved the day and I think, hopefully she’d be very proud of us both for the day,” says William, “I’m just very sad that she’s never going to get a chance to meet Kate.”
The Royal Wedding was a big day, not just for Kate and William, but also for Prince Harry, who took a break from his busy schedule of partying and shaking hands to sit for the interview with Couric.
“I was massively nervous. Everybody was nervous,” Harry remembers of his brothers wedding, “The whole thing was a bit of a blur to be honest because there was God knows how many millions or billions of eyes focused on us. Luckily, mainly those two.”
