The California Supreme Court today upheld Proposition 8's ban on same-sex marriage, but also ruled that the 18,000 gay couples that wed before the November election will continue to be married under state law.
Crowds gathered outside the California Supreme Court in San Francisco today to hear the decision, which was sure to be controversial no matter which way it swayed. Proposition 8 passed with 52% of the vote during the November 2008 elections.
