All you need is love. Beatle Paul McCartney got married this weekend. This is the third marriage for the 69-year-old British icon.
McCartney married Nancy Shevell, a 51-year-old New Jersey Trucking heiress. Yep, you read that correct. Don’t be fooled by the words, “Jersey” “Heiress” and “trucking” she’s apparently a very lovely lady.
Fellow Beatle, Ringo Starr was at the reception and told People, “Nancy’s a beautiful woman.” Paul’s brother Mike McCartney, who served as Best-Man says, “She is a charming lady…she’s one of us now.”
Also at the wedding was famed 60’s model, Twiggy, who announced she was “starving” upon entering the all-vegetarian banquet.
“I’m going to go in and give him a big kiss…We’re just very happy. We love them both to bits.”
The wedding took place at Marylebone Town Hall in central London, the same place where McCartney married his first wife, Linda, who died of breast cancer in 1998. Paul’s second marriage to Heather Mills unfortunately ended in divorce in 2008 after only four years of marriage.
In other aww-that’s-sweet-news, Paul choose yesterday, October 9, 2011, to get married because it would have been former Beatle, John Lennon’s 71st birthday yesterday. That is true friendship. Now that’s what I call a bromance.
Paul played a song he had written for Nancy to serenade her. Omigod, she just married a Beatle and he wrote a song for her. “Hey Nancy, don’t make it bad…you just got MARRIED!” Ok, so I just added Nancy’s name to “Hey Jude,” I’m sure he wrote something better.
He also performed for her, “Let It Be” and one of Nancy’s favorite songs, “Let Me Roll It,” which was written by Paul and his first wife Linda, and some say this song was kind of an homage to John Lennon. So this song paid tribute to his new wife, his first love, and his best friend. Paul McCartney, I love that guy.
Nancy’s dress was designed by Paul’s fashion designer daughter, Stella McCartney.
Mark Ronson DJ’d the event (awesome) and other celeb guests included Kate Moss, George Harrison’s widow Olivia Harrison, Sam Taylor-Wood (director of John Lennon biopic “Nowhere Boy”) and her young American boyfriend Aaron Johnson, and Barbara Walters was there, who is Nancy Shevell’s second cousin.
After the nuptials, Paul said, “I feel absolutely wonderful. I feel terrific. I feel married.”
On Saturday night when Paul and Nancy were seen leaving their home he was asked if he was nervous for the big day, he responded, “Don’t be silly, now. Of course not,” and then “we’re looking forward to it.”
