"I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV" is NOT what Patrick Dempsey told 17-year-old Weston Masset when he pulled the teen out of a car wreckage last week.
The "Grey's Anatomy" star rescued Masset on Tuesday when the boy lost control of his car and crashed outside of Dempsey’s Malibu home.
During a interview that aired Monday, Masset told ABC News that when he saw actor Patrick Dempsey walking towards him, the teen asked him, “Are you famous” with Dempsey replying, “Yeah, I’m a doctor.”
Well, not exactly. Does Dempsey know he only plays McDreamy and that he’s not actually a doctor? Actors, psh. However, in this situation the TV doctor was a real life hero!
With a crowbar and a fire extinguisher, Dempsey rescued the barely-conscious teen and called 911. Dempsey then called the boys mother and the woman recalls, “He had a certain authority in his voice. I asked if he was a paramedic and he said, ‘No, this is Patrick Dempsey.’ I thought, ‘McDreamy?’”
I love that Dempsey tells the boy that he is a doctor and then when the mom asks if he’s a paramedic, he’s like “no, but I am famous.” Doctors? Paramedics? Celebrities? Same thing!
The boy is making a full recovery, escaping with just an eye injury.
“I’m really happy he was there for me, things would have been a lot worse if he didn’t save me,” says Masset.
