The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is still trying to figure out when the Oscars should be held. There have been rumors of the biggest show of the year being moved both to March and January.
It’s looking like the rumors about January Oscars might actually be true. The reason they wanna move the show from February to January is to boost TV ratings and bring back the excitement of the Oscars.
The Academy's executive director, Bruce Davis, told the LA Times that although the show is set for Feb 27, it could still be moved to late Jan or early Feb.
The only problem with the Oscars moving to January is that it will have big competition with the NFL.
"There are only a limited number of Sundays in January and February," Davis says. "I think some people feel it has lost some of its energy, and we're looking for energy."
The 2011 schedule is as follows:
Jan 14 - Critics' Choice Awards
Jan 16-Golden Globes
Jan 30- Screen Actors Guild
Feb 13- British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards
If the Academy did decide to change the date, all those other shows have to move their event to be held in December.
Stay tuned; hopefully they make a decision soon!
