Sad news. When The Oprah Winfrey Show ends in 2011, it’s over for good. Her network announced today that Oprah won’t bring the show to cable in the format that it exists now.
Oprah Winfrey Network CEO Christina Norman said in a statement, “Her show as you know it is not coming to OWN. Pieces of that show we’re going to want to find ways to retain, but I don’t think the format exists in anyone’s mind right now.”
She mentioned that Oprah is “going to have a significant presence on this network,” but it won’t be through a daily sit down talk show like the one she currently has on ABC.
The network itself will launch its programming in January 2011 and will replace Discovery Health. Oprah’s syndicated talk show does not end its run until September 9, 2011.
So what can we expect for the new Oprah? Norman says her new show will appeal more to men than it does now. She says, “Men see her as a self-made millionaire, and respect and see her as a success story. We don’t want guys to run screaming from the room.”
As long as we have Oprah on our screens one way or another, we’re happy!
