RECAP: 2012 MTV Video Music Awards

It was a brief, but a memorable extravaganza.

Though the night was absent of any Kanye-Taylor Swift drama, there were of plenty of milestones and memories to cling to. From the Rihanna and Katy Perry love-fest to Rebel Wilson’s on-stage faux pubic hair, the night will surely go down in VMA history.

Kevin Hart was introduced as “the future President of the United States” and came through as a first time host. Whether it was the Chris Brown and Drake beef, or the Kristen Stewart cheating scandal, the comedian put all the hot topics front and center in his opening monologue.

“So what?” Hart asked, addressing the audience about Kristen allegedly cheating on Rob Pattinson with Snow White and the Huntsmen director Rupert Sanders.

He continued, “You make a mistake, so what?” before blasting a spew of beeped out curses into the mic… Mistakes, indeed.

Other scandalous endeavors for the evening included Katy Perry kissing every single member – some on the lips - of One Direction, Rashida Jones Andy Samberg doing a white people problems rap, and Lil Wayne flashing his stomach to the crowd, while Drake accepted the award for “Best Male Video.”

Performances all around measured up to their hype, with Frank Ocean by far taking the cake as the best showing for the night with his heartfelt, campfire VMA debut of “Thinking About You.”

One Direction, who also performed Thursday night, were the big winners. Rihanna, however, came out with the top award for “Video of the Year” with her single “We Found Love.”
