Taylor Swift didn’t give her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles a pass at the VMAs on Sunday night when she allegedly called him out on the air while accepting her Moonman for “Best Female Video.”
That may have been clear to all watching with the exception of five males in the audience, also known as One Direction.
“We were a bit confused,” Louis Tomlinson said to Us Weekly of the jab, only to make light of it all with a joke. “We thought she was actually calling out Niall [Horan] so the whole thing’s a bit confusing.”
Liam Payne was a bit more blunt, adding, “I just thought it was a bit not needed. I mean, you just won an award, it’s like, concentrate on yourself!”
When Vulture asked for his thoughts on her acceptance speech, Liam continued to defend his bandmate. “Hashtag get over it,” he glibly retorted. “I was going to do a Kanye!” saying he was just on the edge of interrupting her speech by stealing her mic, but then joked he was stopped by “Kanye himself.”
Another reporter asked if Taylor’s behavior was “lame,” to which Liam agreed, “Yeah.”
