File this under “WTF!”

Her Majesty the Queen had a very special and dangerous cameo in today’s opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

Weird and unexpected is the best way I can describe the 2012 Opening Ceremony as evidenced by Daniel Craig as James Bond starring opposite the Queen of England in this short film that ends with them jumping out of a helicopter and into the Olympic Park! I know, right?!

Okay, so a stunt double was used for the helicopter scene but it’s still really cool!

The film begins with James Bond - played by Daniel Craig - arriving at Buckingham Palace in his iconic black cab. He walks down a hallway accompanied by the Queen’s beloved Corgi dogs.

He meets the Queen where she utters a “Good evening Mr. Bond,” to which he says “Good evening Your Majesty.” The Queen tells him that she has a “secret” mission he needs him to complete.

They hop into a waiting helicopter in the film and then outside the actual Olympic Stadium the same copter from the video hovers above the arena. It appears as if Queen Elizabeth and James Bon jump out while the theme song from the Bond movies plays.

However, it turned out to be a couple of royal-looking body doubles as the Queen and her husband Prince Philip appeared in the crowd and headed to their seats.

Nicholas Brown, the BBC’s director of Drama Production says the Queen was a one-take wonder, “She got it in one take. That’s what she does, and she does it very well. She is a professional.”
