Like all superpowers, fame should be used for the greater good. And fortunately, a lot of Hollywood wields their power for philanthropic causes.
Variety's Power of Women event is going to celebrate just that. The publishing company will hold their third-annual luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel on September 23, 2011. In partnership with Lifetime television, they will honor a small group of Hollywood's most charitable women, whom they've deemed, "Lifetime Impact Honorees."
Four-hundred and fifty-guests—all Hollywood insiders--will join to pay tribute to these woman over a lavish lunch. The afternoon will also include a VIP pre and post cocktail party.
Bening works closely with the Actor's Fund while Longoria has set up Eva's Heroes, a charity dedicated to people with intellectual special needs. Lea Michele is an avid PETA supporter. Wilde contributes to Artists for Peace and Justice, a non-profit that focuses on social justice and education in poor communities, specifically Haiti.
Hollyscoop recently talked to Wilde about all the projects she participates in.
"I think girls love seeing tough, strong women," Olivia told us.
“The goal of Variety’s Power of Women is to give voice to the philanthropic and charitable causes closest to our Lifetime Impact Honorees’ hearts, and to utilize the influence of the entertainment community to generate momentum for these same causes," says Michelle Sobrino-Stearns, the Vice President and Associate Publisher of Variety.
"By honoring this incredible group of high-profile women who are leading the charge, we aim to inspire and empower those in our industry to commit their time, resources and energy to these causes and to give these charitable efforts the proverbial stage on which we can shine a spotlight.”
Sobrino-Stearns says part of the reason for the event is to positively celebrate the impact and influence their brand has over the community:
"As a century-old media brand steeped in our community, Variety understands the entertainment industry’s ability to influence popular culture. It is because of this awareness that we launched our Power of Women initiative and we are proud to once again be partnering with Lifetime Networks, as they represent one of the most powerful and innovative women’s media brands in the marketplace today.”
