On Monday, the public watched intently as the verdict was read to Dr. Conrad Murray. As it was announced that he was found guilty of the manslaughter of Michael Jackson, a crowd of cheers erupted outside the courthouse. People were ecstatic to see justice get served to someone they've probably never met before.

The public has an intense fascination with celebrity trials. Publicists and the media can manipulate most celebrity events, whether it's a new romance, a paternity suit or a divorce. And most of the time, we're not 100% sure if what we know is real or not. But when we see those stars in court, on trial, there's no denying the reality of what they're dealing with. The facts are there, the law is involved, and we see those celebs humanized. They go from characters on the covers of magazines to real citizens at the mercy of the judicial system. So we're rounding up the top five celebrity trials of the century.

5. The Jennifer Hudson Family Murders: When Jennifer Hudson won an Academy Award, she was on top of the world. Unfortunately, that came crashing down in 2008, when the bodies of her mother and brother were found murdered in the family's Chicago home. Darnell Donerson and Jason Hudson were both shot to death. Three days after they were found, the body of Hudson's 7 year-old nephew was found in a SUV on the West Side. William Balfour, Jennifer's brother-in-law, became the prime suspect on December 2008. He plead not guilty. A month later, he was charged with first-degree murder and home invasion.

According to the National Enquirer, Simpson confessed the information to one of Oprah Winfrey's producers, and they added that Simpson is supposed to repeat the confession to Oprah during a televised interview, but a rep for Oprah is insisting, "It's not true."

However, Oprah has said...

Oprah thinks she’s going to be the one to get a confession out of OJ Simpson for the 1994 murder of his ex-wife and her friend.

Although OJ was somehow charged not guilty in the murder trial, he is currently facing up to 33 years in prison for armed robbery of sports memorabilia from a Las Vegas hotel.

It’s nice to look back on the year and reminisce about all the things you’ve accomplished, and what’s happened in the news. But it’s even more fun to think about the scandals that shaped 2008! Thanks to Parade magazine, they’ve done all the dirty work for us!

The publication has rounded out ’08 with a list of the most surprising scandals of the year. And coming in on top is David Duchovny’s sex addiction fiasco that landed him in rehab. 35% of readers polled agreed that that was the juiciest story of them all.

With 20% of the vote, OJ Simpson came in second for being found guilty for his Las Vegas heist. And although it was considered a scandal, we think a lot of people were happy that he was finally getting what he deserved years ago: jail time!

Coming in at number three with 13% of the vote is Christian Bale’s alleged domestic battery charge. That did shock us pretty well, but we knew deep down that he would probably would never have done something like that, and the whole thing was a bit embellished.

Heather Locklear’s DUI was voted on by 12% of the readers. We all knew Heather had a substance abuse problem, but we didn’t realize she wasn’t smart enough to hire a driver! Ryan O’Neal and his son being charged with felony drug possession took 7% of the vote. And keeping things in the family, Tatum O’Neal’s arrest after trying to buy crack is next on the list.

There’s just too many scandals to name in 2008, so click here for the full list of them!

OJ Simpson was sentenced to 15 years in prison today in the state of Nevada. District Judge Jackie Glass described Simpson as being “arrogant and ignorant,” and said the evidence was overwhelming.

OJ’s accomplice was also found guilty, and sentenced to 15 years. Each were charged for the following: Conspiracy to commit a crime, conspiracy to kidnap, two counts of first degree kidnapping, burglary in possession of a deadly weapon, two counts of armed robbery, and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Prior to being sentenced, OJ pleaded with the judge, saying, "I didn't mean to hurt anybody and I didn't mean to steal from anybody. I did not know that I was doing anything illegal... I thought that I was confronting friends and retrieving my property. So I am sorry. I am sorry for all of it."

Click here to watch the video. It’s sad to see him on the verge of tears, knowing his life as he knows it is over. But in the long run, he should be happy he’s spent the last 14 years as a free man. This time around, OJ couldn’t blame this on a little black glove. See ya in 2023!

Exactly thirteen years to the day after being acquitted of killing his wife and her friend in Los Angeles, OJ Simpson was found guilty on 12 counts of robbery, conspiracy to commit a crime, assault and kidnapping with a deadly weapon.

Simpson and his co-defendant Clarence Stewart, 54 both face 5 years to life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 5.

Considering the fact that he was facing life in prison, he showed little to no emotion. His sister Carmelita Durio on the other hand started weeping uncontrollably and collapsed. An ambulance had to be called to the courthouse to treat her. His daughter Arnelle was also in the courthouse, who cried as she watched her father be taken away in handcuffs.

This is taking it too far. O.J. Simpson's former sports agent Mike Gilbert has a new book coming out called How I Helped O.J. Get Away With Murder. Is that something to be proud of?!

Gilbert, who claims to have represented Simpson for 18 years, will "detail OJ's late-night confession" and offer new evidence showing that Simpson did kill his ex-wife and Goldman.Gilbert also promises "information on Gilbert's crucial role in obtaining the not guilty verdict and why he stayed silent for so long."

The Make-a-Wish Foundation will receive a portion of the money earned from sale of Gilbert's book. Wow, what a complete douche bag.
