Octavia Spencer recently won the Breakthrough Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and if you’ve seen The Help, you can see why.
While Octavia has been acting for a while now, her role as Minny Jackson in The Help is considered her breakout role. You’ll definitely be seeing more of her, as there’s even talks she’ll get an Academy nod for that role. Hollyscoop talked to Octavia about how she went from obscurity to Oscar buzz.
“I’m nominated for a lot of things,” Octavia told Hollyscoop. “I don’t know if I’m going to get a lot of things but it’s great to be in the conversation.”
And how would she feel to win an Oscar?
“It would be exciting if it happened, but right now I’m a proponent of living in the moment,” Spencer tells Hollyscoop.
And, as we mentioned, Octavia’s been in the acting game for a while.
“It hasn’t been an easy road,” she told us. “And that’s why this [Breakthrough] Award is so sweet. It just says as long as you persevere great things can happen, so I’m a testament of that.”
And now that red carpet season is in full swing, how does Octavia get red carpet ready?
“There’s a lot of work that goes into this stuff,” she tells us. “I did fittings and all that stuff, and I hope they turn out well. I hope I don’t end up on some Fashion Police thing, but if I do, who cares? As long as I’m comfortable.”
But most importantly, Octavia is enjoying the ride.
“I’m having fun,” she tells Hollyscoop.
