Hollyscoop caught up with the actor at ‘The Vampire Diaries at Paley Fest 2012’, and asked him if he finds it difficult to separate his personal relationship with Nina from her character on the show, Elena.
“Well they are both really sweet,” Ian told Hollyscoop. “And very good human beings. So no, it’s pretty easy.”
“Fairly easy,” Ian continued.
When we asked him how it feels to be TV’s hottest neck-biter, Ian told us: “I don’t know where that came from.”
Uh huh, sure.
“But I’m just happy to be here.”
Ian’s role on the show has garnered him fans from everywhere, and sometimes, those fans can be a little…demanding. Somerhalder tells us some of the craziest fan experiences involve “a lot of requests of biting.”
And here’s why that’s a bad idea.
“There are a lot of legal implications,” Ian tells Hollyscoop. “Our audience is typically a younger audience. So someone who is 17 maybe looks 25, but they are not. Their father is like, waiting in the wing. Biting is out of the question!”
And it doesn’t appear that vampire mania will be fizzling out anytime soon, but Ian says it’s something he thinks about, especially since the Twilight saga is coming to an end.
“It’s either going to be the end, or people are going to still want that fix,” Somerhalder tells Hollyscoop. “So maybe we can satiate that thirst a little bit.”
