Nicole Richie's DUI Probation Extended

Nicole Richie has been missing her court-mandated drug and alcohol courses—but she has a legitimate excuse, unlike Lindsay Lohan.

According to TMZ, an LA judge extended Richie’s probation today by one full year because Nicole has been missing her alcohol education classes.

Her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley (who also represents Lindsay), explained to the judge Tuesday that Richie had a court-approved leave of absence, a condition of her probation, while she raised her kids, Harlow, 2, and Sparrow, 9 months.

Nicole is on probation because of her 2006 DUI, when she was arrested after driving the wrong way on an L.A. freeway. Her probation was due to terminate next month, but will now be extended until March 2011.

The judge said he would terminate her probation earlier if she completes the alcohol ed program before March.

Rumors have been circling around these two ever since Joel put that massive rock on her finger, the most recent being that they were planning on tying the knot in June--this month!

But Joel has squashed the rumors saying they're "absolutely not" getting married this month.

Joel Madden Talks Kids, Career and Nicole

Joel Madden has come a long way since his early days of Good Charlotte. He’s 31 years old, engaged to Nicole Richie and a father of two. Joel recently finished wrapping up his latest album which he co-wrote and produced with his identical twin Benji Madden for their rock Band Good Charlotte.

Joel took time away from his busy schedule to talk about his inspiration behind his latest album. He told Hollyscoop EXCLUSIVELY, “Our lives have been [lived] inwardly and obviously people don’t get to see a lot of it. It’s a roller coaster of being on tour, making records and living your life. And then for me, the last two years [have been about] slowing down and starting a family and really taking some time back for myself and doing what I want to do which is to have a family.”

Nicole Richie: Wedding is Soon

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden waited forever to get engaged, so we only assumed they would have a long engagement. But according to the bride-to-be, the wedding is right around the corner!

Nicole talked with Ellen Degeneres in an interview that airs today, and says the nuptials will happen “soon. It's a big deal," she says of the wedding preparations.

The only thing that’s apparently been getting in the couple’s way are their busy schedules. Nicole was most recently in Europe presenting her new collections for Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960.

"I've been on the road," says Richie. “I just got home, so it's really going to be like now that's the time for me to sit down and think about what I want."

Newly engaged Nicole Richie showed off her big, sparkly Neil Lane engagement ring, estimated to be about 4 carats, while she launched her Winter Kate Spring 2010 collection at Bloomingdale’s in New York Tuesday afternoon.

Neil Lane said Nicole helped with the design of the ring, which took a little over a month.“Nicole was lovely and wonderful to work with on it! We designed it together,” says Lane. As for Madden’s input, well, he left it all to the bride-to-be, says Lane. “Joel just wanted her to have her dream ring.”

Nicole announced her engagement to rocker Joel Madden on Monday’s The Late Show with David Letterman.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden Engaged to be Married!

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden must have had a change of heart about the marriage thing because they have decided to get hitched!

For once, this is not a rumor as Nicole Richie confirmed it herself on Monday night on The Late Show with David Letterman.

"Yep. i'm engaged. Very happy. Yeah we've been engaged for a while so your all kind of late on that. But Thanks for the hooplah all the same," Madden wrote on Twitter Monday night, after Richie announced the news.

He also Tweeted: "P.s. thats why i love my family and friends. None of them are sources. All good tight lipped people who let us enjoy it! Thanks everybody"

The two have been dating since December 2006 and have two adorable children together.

Richie would always brush off engagement rumors by saying, "One day I would love to get married...It's not something we're talking about...

Lionel Richie: I Can't Wait to Give Away the Bride

Now that the cats out of the bag, Nicole Richie's very proud father Lionel is talking about how excited he is that Nicole and Joel Madden have decided to tie the knot. And he's even more thrilled about walking his little girl down the aisle.

"I cannot wait to give away the bride," Lionel gushed to People magazine. "I am not sure who is luckier, Nicole and Joel to have each other, or me, to have both of them in my life," he says.

Lionel already felt blessed to have Nicole and Joel in his life, but they've also given him two adorable grandchildren, for which he'll always be grateful.

"My happiness for Nicole and Joel knows no boundaries," says Richie. "They have given me two beautiful grandchildren, Harlow and Sparrow, and have proven to be great parents."

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden Open Playground

Nicole Richie and her man Joel Madden helped open the children's playground they've been working on for months.

The couple helped raise $35,000 through their Richie-Madden Children's Foundation charity in 2008 to build a playground at Los Angeles low income housing area Beyond Shelter, and are overjoyed with the completed project.

Nicole said, "When we first started coming here, there were no kids outside. To see the place come to life and have a place to come outside and be kids, and have their imaginations run wild, it's really awesome."

And they're not done yet either! Joel announced that they're planning on donating more money to charitable causes. All proceeds from coffee cups designed by the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation between now and March 15 will go to charity, with a guaranteed minimum donation of $250,000.
